What Canadian wine region makes the best Chardonnay?
Ontario is the best know Canadian wine region for Chardonnay. In fact, Niagara
produces many fantastic whites. As of 2007, Niagara still produces the best Chardonnay.

- Lailey Vineyard, Niagara
- Willow Height Estate Winery, Niagara
- Norman Hardie, Niagara
- Mountain Road Wine Company, Niagara

Who produces the best Ontario Chardonnay?
In my opinion, Lailey Vineyard produces
the best Chardonnay in Ontario. They have both oaked and un-oaked Chardonnay!
Who produces the best Niagara Chardonnay?
Same answer as above, Lailey Vineyard.
Great stuff at a very good price!
Who produces the best Prince Edward County (PEC) Chardonnay?
It is a tough choice but for 2004 I choose Closson Chase
as the best producer of Chardonnay in Prince Edward County . It is pricey but definately one of the best
show wines in Ontario.
Who produces the best BC Chardonnay?
I have not tasted as many British Columbia Chardonnays but in my opinion,
Blasted Church does a great
job of producing a BC Chardonnay. In my opinion it is the best British Columbia Chardonnay!
How long as chardonnay been produced in Canada?
The first Canadian chardonnay was produced in 1979 but only in the last seven years
has it been a staple of the Canadian wine industry. BC Chardonnay has become
the best of the best in Canadian Chardonnay.
How much chardonnay is planted in BC?
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a good answer to this questions.
It is true that before 1985 there was only 20 acres of Chardonnay planted
in British Columbia. I can assure you, there is a lot more Chardonnay now!
Are all chardonnay's oakey and buttery?
No, while many chardonnays are very buttery and oakey the chardonnay grape
can be fruity and a bit dry. The oakey and buttery taste comes from againg
the chardonnay in new oak barrels; some wineries use french oak and others
us American oak for chardonnay. To try the difference get a bottle of "unoaked"
Chardonnay and a bottle of "okaed" Chardonnay and try them side by side!
Is it true there is a Chardonnay Ice wine?
Yes! Canada produces 99% of the worlds ice wine. Vidal was originally the main
grape used in ice wine but soon people began to experiment. Chardonnay ice wine
is incredibly rich and has an acidity that can support the sweetness. One drawback
to Chardonnay ice wine is how thick it is, you haven't seen a desert wine this
thick ever!
Can I have a list of top ranked BC Chardonnay?
Here are some of my favorites:
- CedarCreek Estate Winery - 2004 Platinum Reserve Chardonnay
- Golden Mile Cellars - 2004 Black Arts Chardonnay
- Le Frenz Winery - 2004 Reserve Chardonnay
- Mission Hill Family Estate - 2004 S.L.C. Chardonnay
- Mt. Boucherie Estate Winery - 2003 Summit Reserve Chardonnay
- Quails' Gate Estate Winery - 2004 Family Reserve Chardonnay
