Cabernet Franc is produced in Ontario and British Columbia. Both provices produce very good Cab Francs and in a wide range of styles. Francs from Niagara tend to have more green fruit with BC wines having more darker fruit.

For many years Cabernet Franc's were my favorite wines. Then after years of not really drinking many I have recently tried a few more and all are include

Who produces the best Ontario Cabernet Franc?

In my opinion, Kacaba Vineyard has the the best Cabernet Franc in Ontario. Kacaba's 2003 Cabernet Franc is absolutely great. The 2003 should be put down for at least 3-5 years to allow it reach its prime drinking age. This is one of the few Ontario wines that could be cellared for 10 years.

Cabernet Franc grapes are one of the main grapes used in French Bordeaux blends. In Canada, it is most often used in Mertiges or other bordeaux style blends

Yes! Canada produces 99% of the worlds ice wine. Cabernet Francice wine has a beautiful red/pink colour which makes it a great wine to give as a present. More and more wineries are producing Cabernet Franc Icewine in Ontario.

  • Pillitteri Estates Winery, 2002 Cabernet Franc, Niagara - Sept 1,2008 starting to get a bit long in the tooth. Losing the wonderful tobaco notes it had when it was young. Drink and and enjoy.
