Wine tasting in Niagara is probably the most popular thing in wine country.
Taking a tour of Ontario's Niagara region can be a beautiful experience especially with a little planning.

Once you can find what you are looking for every wine tasting will be a memorable one.
Here are some common questions about attending wine tastings in Niagara.
How many Niagara wine tastings can I do in one day?
Truly enjoying wine tastings depend on keeping your pallet fresh (ie: being able to tell one wine from another).
A quick rule of thumb is that after tasting 20 wines your pallet will start getting fatigued. Of course, if you had
20 3oz tasting that might the be least of your worries. Plan on seeing 4-6 wineries in one
day then you can safely try 2-5 wines at each winery.
What type of wine tasting will I find in Niagara?
Here is a short list of the different types of wine tasting I have done in Niagara
- Structured Tasting - you will be lead in the tasting and it will follow a 'structured format'.
- Vertical Tasting - tasting different vintages of the same wint
- Horizontal Wine Tasting - tasting wines from the same vintage but different wineries
- Barrel Sample - a wine maker will let you try wines in a barrel to see the wine very eary
- Icewine Tasting - trying a selection of icewines
- Portfolio Wine Tasting - trying 3-6 wine from a particular winery
- Free Wine Tasting - often people favorite where a wine pours wine for free!
Are most wine tastings free?
In Niagara, like most wine regions, has a full mix of free and paid wine tastings.
Wine tasting aren't always free because many Niagara wineries make small batches of wine.
If I purchase wine do I still get charged for my wine tasting?
If you purchase wine MOST place with 'comp' your tastings BUT it is always good to ask.
IMHO, offering 'free' wine tasting with the purchase of wine is the best way to ensure a
customer leave your winery with your product.

Is there a specific wine I should try when tasting wine in Niagara?
When in Niagara you should definately try an ice wine tasting! Canada is the worlds leader in icewine
and Ontario's Niagara wine region is the leader in Canada. You can try vidal ice wine,
riesling ice wine, cabernet franc ice wine, and many more.
Will I be chared for an icewine tasting in Niagara?
Yes, almost all wineries in Niagara charge for icewine tastings. Icewine isn't cheap to produce but can be worth it.
Do any wine tours of Niaraga have barrel tastings?
There were a few places that would do schedule barrel tastings as part of a wine tour.
